Sir, - When we go down to the Esplanade in Bray, what do we expect to see? The sea. Of course. The sea, the splendid sea, clouds grey or white, collapsing waves, seagulls gliding. The whole free grandeur of it all. And Bray Head, always visible, always uplifting.

Yes, it would be good if landscape gardeners were let loose on the small fields, creating an adventure of trees, an excitement of flowers. There are so many things we can do to keep Bray beautiful. But please, don't fill in the sea. Don't build a marina, a six-storey apartment-block, a hotel, a litter of carparks. Who wants to make Bray a look-alike of Puerto Banus on the Costa del Sol? - Yours, etc.,

Jim McGowan, Parknasilla Rise, Loughlinstown, Co Dublin.
