Sir, - I welcome the letters from Cllr Deirdre de Burca and Liz McManus, TD describing the proposed development of Bray seafront as "outrageous" and "hare-brained".
The truth is that the people of Bray have been naive about planning. They assumed their town was safe from bad development. Were we not protected by the historic Bray Golf Club to the north, by the sea to the east and by Bray Head to the south? Any expansion, we reckoned, would have to go westward, leaving the elegant old Victorian town untouched.
What fools we were. Too late did we realise that the rezoned golf club lands would be built over, that Bray Head's slopes would fall to the voracious developers, and now the very sea is to have its land reclaimed for a massive commercial scheme. Is there no-one to shout stop? - Yours, etc.,
Jim Mcneive, Ashbury Park, Bray, Co Wicklow.
