Madam, - It is surprising that one of your writers, in extolling the virtues of Greek drama ("The Ancient Greeks are speaking to us across the ages", Opinion, August 13th) should so misuse a quotation from Hamlet. When a custom is "more honoured in the breach than in the observance" it is a custom which should be breached and should not be observed.
Your writer's misuse of the quotation is, indeed, a custom more honoured in the breach than in the observance. - Yours, etc.,
PADDY O'FLYNN, Leinster Road, Dublin 6.
