Brexit – weighing up the possibilities

Sir, – David Honan (May 10th) asks for an honest discussion on whether Ireland's best option following a Brexit would be for Ireland to leave as well.

We could start with examining the impact of the Common Fisheries Policy.

Between 1975 and 2010, non-Irish boats took €184 billion worth of fish out of Irish waters compared with €17 billion worth by Irish boats.

The net EU contribution to Ireland in cash between 1973 and 2013 was €41 billion. So we could have been €120 billion better off outside the EU. – Yours, etc,
