Sir, - Cultural amnesia is one of the afflictions of the post-modern world. We must now add agricultural amnesia to the list. Nodding Ned O'Keeffe seems to have forgotten that some years ago he called for the banning of the film Babe (sight unseen, naturally, as he is a public representative) on the basis that sympathetic portrayal of pigs would depress the market for rashers.
Given the Minister's undoubted ability to cope with cognitive dissonance, perhaps he could get his head around the notion that the air over the farm and plant in which he has an interest is now black with the wings of the piggies coming home to roost. - Yours etc.,
Gerry Dukes, Dublin 12.
