Sir, - Frank McDonald's article on Achill (June 24th) was timely and well researched. The island is at a crossroads in development and in my view heading for environmental disaster. I totally agree with Camille Souter's remark that "everything is up for grabs".
There is only one answer to the present situation and that is that the people of Achill unite and lobby the new Minister for the Environment night and day until a rational plan of development suitable to the Achill people emerges. After all, the people of Inishturk gave a clear "no" to the gold miners. - Yours, etc.,
