Madam, - I was somewhat bemused to read Fiona O'Malley's letter of August 3rd, as it contains some wonderful inaccuracies, as well as red herrings. The residents have clearly demonstrated, though a very detailed survey, that there is a "low level of demand for buses travelling on this route". Indeed, half the buses travelling on this route were found to be "out of service".

Why, then, does Ms O'Malley suggest destroying this lovely avenue by running a bus corridor down the middle?

In addition, Dublin Bus has stated publicly that it has no extra buses to run on this proposed corridor, which makes a nonsense of the whole idea.

The pressure for this QBC comes from Government policy - aren't the PDs part of this Government? - Yours, etc.,

Madam, - It amazes me that someone can write such a short letter full of inaccuracies and absurd ideas (Fiona O'Malley TD, August 2nd). Firstly the trio which Ms O'Malley describes is in fact four. The Quality Bus Network Project Office is the organisation assigned to develop this bus corridor.

Secondly, she failed to mention (or just plain doesn't know) that a new service linking Blackrock DART station to Belfield will also use the corridor. That's called integration, Ms O'Malley.

Finally, will the Progressive Democrats issue the old computer game "Frogger" to all commuters using Ms O'Malley's idea of a central bus lane. It would prove invaluable for developing the skill of dodging cars, trucks and bicycles when boarding and alighting a bus in the middle of a road. - Yours, etc.,
