Madam, - In his blindly partisan opinion piece in Monday's edition, Charles Krauthammer makes the bald assertion that Bill Clinton left no political legacy upon vacating the White House.
Perhaps the blinkered Mr Krauthammer has had his brain pickled by too much of whatever it is neo-cons wash themselves with and maybe events in the 1990s in somewhere as small as Northern Ireland passed over his radar.
Never mind; even if his assertion were true, which it obviously isn't, it remains instructive to look objectively at the legacy bequeathed to the world by the administration headed by Clinton's deeply flawed and hopelessly incompetent successor.
An economy left in a healthy state by Clinton is now in disarray. We have sky-high oil prices, a dim-witted denial of the existence of global warming, the Iraq fiasco, detention and torture without trial of suspects in his unwinnable "War Against Terror", breaching the Geneva Conventions, and arguably making the whole world a more dangerous place than it was when he entered office.
A pretty impressive legacy, one must admit - and one which will take decades to remedy. - Yours, etc,
DAVID MARLBOROUGH, Kenilworth Park, Dublin 6w.
