While the buskers do possess varying degrees of talent, they add life to a shopping street which - with its proliferation of chain stores and mobile phone shops - is in danger of becoming indistinguishable from any UK "high street".

In the space of a few hundred yards shoppers can be treated to anything from puppet shows, to pre-pubescent gymnastic vocals, to mini-dancing leprechauns. There are not many arts festivals that could boast such a range.

Rather than moaning, Mr Gallager should celebrate these people for their lively contributions to one of our main thoroughfares.
