Sir, - I was concerned to read recent articles in The Irish Times giving the impression that Tesco do not support Irish industry. There is more to supporting Irish industry than meets the customer's eye.

In the case of their corporate identity/signage and indoor communications /displays, Tesco has given every encouragement and support to Irish manufacturers to the detriment of its established UK suppliers' network.

This is in stark contrast to most other UK multiples, which import such materials ready-made from the UK. Tesco has made a concerted effort, in this industry, to support Irish.

In the signage industry, some sectors are entirely dominated by imported materials. Tesco has taken a courageous stance in choosing Irish - and should be applauded and emulated. - Yours, etc., Jack Coffey,
