Madam, - It is not yet April Fool's Day, but it has been announced that someone is proposing to run cable cars above the Liffey in our capital city.
This bizarre notion would see the erection of enormous, permanent gantries, together with overhead cables for the cars, destroying one of the best-known and best-loved vistas in Dublin. Could one imagine this scheme being proposed in Paris, Vienna, Rome or other cities which take pride in their river setting?
