Sir, – I was struck that during the debates necessary for the rushed legislation to effectively remortgage private debt as public the Dáil bar was open.
I fail to see how any self-respecting public representative could defend this archaic situation particularly in a country with a well-established dysfunctional relationship with alcohol.
I appeal to our Government in residence in Frankfurt to immediately close this establishment and to tell its messengers in the chambers that while they may want us to eat cake they certainly shouldn’t be seen to be toasting us while they congratulate each other on their recent recalibration of private gambling debt onto the shoulders of future generations of serfs.
