Madam, - The Trócaire debate on gender equality is timely. I suggest that as well as Galatians 3:28, as proposed by the ladies of Whitechurch Road March 15th), our church leaders also read Luke 4:16-30, in which Jesus makes it clear that nobody owns him. He is not anybody's property, male or female.
The sad thing about our Irish church is its fear of Rome. Do they believe that the Holy Spirit is only in Rome? I am told that the Holy Spirit, who urges me to enter this debate, is irrelevant. Until Rome deems otherwise the subject cannot be discussed. - Yours, etc,
RITA BYRNE, Rathcoole, Co Dublin.
