Madam, - One of the latest Fine Gael election posters displays a picture of Enda Kenny in front of the Four Courts with the slogan: "I'll make criminals pay for their crimes". An interesting election promise - to do away with the Constitution, remove the role of courts and judiciary and throw out the doctrine of separation of powers. A new breed of Taoiseach with sentencing powers? Seditious stuff, surely!
Perhaps I misunderstand. Does Enda Kenny seek a nomination to the bench? Can we expect an Honourable Mr Justice Kenny? Or is it just the beginning of a long year of wild, fantastical, pre-election promises by politicians? At the risk of seeming cynical, I assume it's the latter. - Yours, etc,
