Sir, - I refer to the letter and article from Dr Bill Tormey and Dr John Crown in your edition of January 9th. Both were dealing with the "glaring factual inaccuracies" in Tommie Gorman's account of his experience as a patient with a carcinoid tumour. Along with the knowledge of E112 forms that Mr Gorman gives us, Dr Tormey's irate pen reveals that "screening for carcinoid has been available at my department in Beaumont Hospital since 1989". So, we now have another piece of hitherto well-hidden information. Methinks, doctors, you protest too much.
Information is dragged from the medical profession only in defensive rants. Dr Tormey should consider that the begrudgers he consigns to hell are the taxpayers paying his salary and that the department he works in is not his - it's ours. - Yours, etc.,
