Sir, - You may be an uninsured driver without knowing it. If your car insurance is for "domestic, pleasure and social use" but you are using the car for "business" use, you could lose not only your car, but your house, and all your assets, and maybe even your liberty. It is that serious.
Maybe you are not a businessman, but the same principle applies to every public servant who claims a mileage allowance. Every employee who goes on an errand is in the same boat, whether in receipt of a mileage allowance or not. Every doctor on call out, every Army officer on duty, every district nurse on her rounds, every press reporter on the job, every farmer going to the market, every barrister and judge going to the court are all vulnerable.
Judge for yourself whether the law is an ass or not. - Yours, etc.,
Coolfin,
Portlaw,
Co Waterford.
