Sir, – It is indeed good news that cancer care facilities at Crumlin Children’s Hospital are undergoing a facelift (May 27th). It is very telling that these works can only be done due to fundraising in the community. The Government, through the HSE, has an obligation to provide clean and safe hospitals for our children. Yet again they have failed to do this. The cost to this State of two brief visits by Mr Obama and Queen Elizabeth (spanning a total of four days) amounted to half the sum required to upgrade the facilities in Crumlin. Little wonder that these guests were shown around the Guinness Hop Store and not St John’s cancer ward. – Yours, etc,
PAUL SHEILS,
