Madam, - Further to Dr Muiris Houston's excellent report on stroke units (Your Health series, October 22nd), I am happy to report, in these days of doom and gloom, that we recently opened a 19-bed acute medical rehabilitation unit on the Letterkenny/St Conal's hospital campus.
Although it does not deal exclusively with stroke patients, this unit offers a comprehensive rehabilitation programme to all patients with acute stroke admitted to Letterkenny General Hospital.
I would support Prof O'Neill's plea for more resources for acute stroke care.
The evidence is there from the clinical trials and the results are well worth the effort involved. - Yours etc.,
