SEAN DUFFY,
Madam, - Fact One: Frank Dunlop gave money to politicians, believing, by his own admission, that it would influence the designation of lands at Carrickmines, Co Dublin. Fact Two: Those lands were subsequently rezoned for industrial and residential use, and the path of the South-Eastern Motorway through those lands was subtly but significantly moved.
Question: is there a connection?
Answer: we won't know until Mr Justice Flood has finished his investigations of the matter.
The problem: that will be too late for the 800-year-old castle at Carrickmines, which is smack in the middle of the new road alignment, and due for destruction in a matter of weeks.
A plea: will somebody in a position of authority in this democratic republic intervene, even at this late stage, to save Carrickmines Castle from destruction, and save us from shame. - Yours etc.,
SEAN DUFFY, Chairman, Friends of Medieval Dublin, Trinity College, Dublin 2.
