Madam, - Now that the SSIA scheme is coming to an end, Finance Minister Brian Cowen should introduce DIRT tax relief to continue the incentive to save.
I would suggest the relief should be at such a level that those wishing to reinvest some or all of their SSIA monies would be able to do so without having to pay DIRT tax on the interest earned. A refund of the first €200 DIRT tax paid might be appropriate. This would allow the first €1,000 of deposit interest, on one or more accounts, to be free of DIRT tax. - Yours, etc,
