JIM HAYES,
Sir, - In relation to your Editorial comment concerning Donal de Róiste (July 2nd), there appear to be at least two issues to be resolved. The first and most obvious is: why has this man has been placed in this situation?
However, I am far more perturbed by the question of why it has apparently taken over 30 years for the issue to get the attention it deserves. Justice delayed is justice denied.
The suggestion of a cover-up has uncomfortable echoes, coming around the same time as Frank Johnson's successful appeal against his murder conviction heard at the Court of Appeal in London last week.
I hope Donal de Róiste's case gets the attention and scrutiny it deserves, with nothing hidden and nothing on the agenda other than a search for the truth. - Yours, etc.,
JIM HAYES,
Castlewellan,
Co Down.
