Sir, - It amazed me to see Catherine Nevin being escorted to the prison van without being handcuffed, following her recent conviction for murder. I was further amazed to see her arriving at and departing from the same court last week, still "uncuffed".
While designer "cuffs" may not be on general issue to the Prison Service, she should nevertheless have been treated like other prisoners. Perhaps the prison escort might have felt that the cuffs would tarnish the gold bracelet and chain.
So much for equality before the law - or should I say in this case after the law had taken its course? - Yours, etc.,
