Sir, - I have noticed that your newspaper has become, like the other newspapers in the Republic of Ireland, increasingly anti-Catholic.

The recent scandals about priests who have abused children seem to have given editors what they perceive to be an open licence to attack the Catholic Church.

The abuse of children is completely reprehensible. Any person, whether clergy or lay, who abuses or has abused a child should be severely punished.

From reading newspapers recently, it would almost seem as if the only people who abuse or have abused children are priests or Christian Brothers.

I think it would be only fair if you pointed out that the vast majority of child abusers are the child's relatives - father, brother, grandfather...

Surely the greatest betrayal of trust for a child must be to have been abused by your own father. - Yours, etc.,
