Sir, - Frances Kissling (December 31st) is in danger of believing her own dogma re Catholic Conscience.
I may be open to correction but my distinct recollection of "Catholic Conscience" is that one must have "an informed conscience" when faced with difficult moral decisions. It is quite easy as many Catholics need to go no further than the ten commandments for easy reference - thou shalt not kill (this I presume would relate to Ms Kissling's reference to abortion). Thou shalt not commit adultery would directly relate to infidelity inside/outside marriage.
I was educated in the 1970s, the lessons I learned at home and in the religion classes still stick and couldn't have been more clear. With the benefit of third level and post graduate education I still find within myself reverence for the tenets and fundamental truths of my religion.
If "Catholics for a free choice want to espouse an individualistic interpretation of conscience, why don't they stand up and say who and what they really are. - Yours, etc.,
