Madam, - As a Roman Catholic I felt affronted by the gratuitously offensive term "invented", as employed by Rev David O' Hanlon (August 23rd) when describing the inception of the Reformed Churches in the 16th century.

God help ecumenism if such an atavistic attitude is all we can hope for from a Catholic priest in describing fellow Christians. Fundamentalism, it appears, is by no means the sole preserve of others. - Yours, etc.,
