Sir, – Congratulations and thanks to your chess correspondent JJ Walsh on presenting his 14,000th chess problem this week.

Older chess enthusiasts will remember that back in the pre-internet era JJ (Jim) Walsh presented a weekly column which kept us aware of events in the world of competitive chess.

I recall looking forward to these bulletins, while competing as a schoolboy, back in the early 1950s.
