Madam, – I have been writing to the chairman, Sir Stuart Rose, of Marks Spencer regarding overcharging Irish customers.
The first letter was in January and again I wrote to him in June. I got no reply to either.
The gist of my letters was that his company was treating their Irish customers as fools.
I checked various items from time to time and found that they were adding on 55 per cent to the sterling price.
Saturday week I saw a jacket, the sterling price of which was £59. The price to us was €91. Last week I heard that they were reducing their prices by 12 per cent. That still leaves the sterling price plus 36 per cent.
12 per cent is an insult. Mná na hÉireann should wake up and leave MS with their stock until they charge us a fair price. – Yours, etc,
