Madam, – I was deeply moved by the obituary for Charlie “The Hare” Maguire (October 23rd). His life story is a powerful and poignant example of how Ireland systematically failed to protect many of its children and young adults over many generations. This failure is our country’s greatest shame and should never be forgotten.
I welcome that The Irish Timesgave his story a prominence equal to those who had achieved so much in their professional lives. It highlights that Ireland sometimes doesn't cherish the children of the nation equally. May he rest in peace. – Yours, etc,
