SEAN O'CEALLAIGH,
Sir, - Our thanks are due to John Lannon (August 28th) for reminding us of the plight of the street children in Guatemala City. The savage slaughter and mutilation of defenceless children who have to sleep on the streets has been going on now for many years.
In An Irishman's Diary of April 28th, 1994, David Shanks referred to it - and to the trojan work of the Englishman Bruce Harris and "Casa Alianza" in providing "safe houses" for hundreds of these children.
Thousands have been rescued by them since then but tens of thousands are still at risk.
We can all do something here. We can:
1. Support Casa Alianza. Its address in England is Business Exchange (Unit 2), Rockingham Road, Kettering, Northants NN16 8IX.
2. Urge our local TDs and MEPs to pressure the Guatemalan government to end these outrages.
3. Tell others about it so they may take action too.
4. Pray daily to God for these unhappy orphans and "rejects". They are His children too. - Yours, etc.,
SEAN O'CEALLAIGH,
Castleknock,
Dublin 15.
