Sir, - On the very day that Beijing has been awarded the 2008 Olympic Games, Falun Gong reveals that another mass killing of its members has taken place in a Chinese labour camp.
Ten male prisoners were beaten to death in Changlinzi Labour Camp in north-east China. Reports vary, but the Chinese authorities again claim it was mass suicide.
The Dalai Lama said Beijing should be awarded the Olympics if it improved human rights conditions in China.
China has formally executed more than 1780 people in the last three months, and has informally killed at least 267 Falun Gong in the last year.
At the present rate, the total slain by 2008 is likely to outnumber the competing athletes in the Beijing Olympics.
And that's only calculating by the official figures. Amnesty International reckons the unofficial number of executions is much higher.
A chilling thought. - Yours, etc.,
Anthony O'Brien, Ailesbury Road, Dublin.
