Madam, – John Waters (Opinion, March 26th) states “Christ is about the only one connected to the Irish Catholic Church who has not been called on to resign”.

Can he explain how the two are connected?

What fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? Where in the Bible does Christ call for a celibate clergy and for priests to assist paedophiles in their sin? When did Christ teach the Catholic doctrines of Purgatory, penance, worshipping Mary, intercession of saints, infant baptism, the immaculate conception, indulgences, etc? Did he not say, “Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition”?

Doesn’t the Bible claim to be written by the Holy Spirit? Doesn’t it say that God is angry with the wicked every day? Didn’t Christ say he was the only way to the Father? Did he not submit himself to the authority of scripture and tell us to “search the scriptures”? Isn’t Christ’s the loudest voice calling for the resignations of the Catholic clergy and for people to return to his word? – Yours, etc,
