Sir, - The "My School Days" slot of the E&L supplement of September 11th carries an account of the schooldays of John Waters under the heading "A time of fear and foreboding". As a lead-in to Mr Waters's article, a subheading informs readers that the author "even feigned illness to escape the Christian Brothers".

From this preamble the reader would no doubt assume that Mr Waters had at some stage attended a school run by the Christian Brothers. Yet in the article it becomes apparent that it was not in fact a Christian Brothers school which the author attended.

The only conclusion to be drawn from this mistake is that the guiding principle in presenting this article owed more to rash presumption than to due attention to content. Thus a misleading slant, unfair to the Christian Brothers, was given to the article in question. - Yours, etc.,
