Madam, - Dr Martin Pulbrook misses the point. The Bible tells us that the Jews are a chosen people. This means that they are a representative people - not a favourite people. God chose the Jews as the nation that would receive the truth of the gospel on behalf of and for the benefit of men of every race.

Thus, when the Jews said, "His blood be upon us," they were saying this as representatives of every one of us.

Charles Wesley expressed this truth powerfully in the hymn beloved of all Methodists and many other Christians: "Died he for me who caused his pain, For me who him to death pursued?"

Grasp this simple truth and the notion that the New Testament is anti-Semitic becomes ridiculous. - Yours, etc.,
