Sir, Christina Murphy is being remembered from various perspectives, by people who represent different segments of society. Friends, parents of students, work colleagues and the academic community at large have not only been paying respect, but tribute to her.

She excelled in her chosen role as counsellor, adviser and comforter to many thousands of confused students over the years. She has been hailed from being the greatest journalist of her generation to being a guiding light for parents and students alike.

She played an important part in clarifying and simplifying the whole CAO process and disentangling the growing variety of choices available, at a time when higher education was beginning to open up to young people en masse and away from the rather academic focus that it previously occupied.

Only a few years ago, I myself was one of those confused and Unsettled students who needed answers to many queries. I would turn to Christina's articles, which would not only satisfy these inquiries but would almost anticipate my next question. I am not alone in this experience, and could represent many students that have emerged from the points race when I thank her for helping us on our way to a successful third level education. Yours, etc., Knocklyon, Dublin 16.
