Madam, - To what new lows have our "wannabe" politicians stooped?

Walking to Mass on Christmas morning, I was confronted by two large posters placed at the entrances to my local church. They were emblazoned with the name of an unsuccessful candidate from the last general election that of his political party, with a message of seasonal greetings to his "constituents".

Surely we should be able to celebrate the religious festivities of Christmas time free from this tasteless and inappropriate canvassing. There are too many examples where the line between politics and religion has been blurred to the detriment of many. Sadly, it would appear that we have not all heeded the valuable lessons to be learned here.

If this particular individual truly believes that he is endearing himself to the residents of Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown, he has severely underestimated their intelligence people. Perhaps a delusion of grandeur is a prerequisite for many hopefuls on the campaign trail to Leinster House.

In future would the individual responsible keep his attempts at self-gratification out of the public domain, and the streets of Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown free from such despicable exhibitions of disrespect for Christmas? - Yours, etc.,
