Sir, - Carmel Courtney (May 1st) accuses the Catholic Church of going to any length "to have its laws enshrined in civil law". The laws that Fr Ingoldsby referred to in his letter arc not just based on the catechism but on the 10 Commandments. Of course, it suits those who wish to disregard the Commandments to claim that compliance with them is not what is at stake but only compliance with Catholic teaching. Convenient!
Why was the Government advised by the company they employed (with its labour connection) to side step the effects of divorce on women and children if it does not adversely affect them?
Also, on the subject of marriage, I am so glad that "the God who created life and the literally wonderful universe that we occupy" blessed Richard Penny throughout his marriage. May he continue to do so for many years to come even though he was excluded from his registry office marriage. - Yours, etc.,
Ardeskin,
Donegal Town.
