Madam, - While I apologise unreservedly to Dean Michael Burrows (May 27th) if he found my letter of May 25th hurtful, it had the positive effect of publicising the admirable work carried out in Cork on the document Mary - Grace and Hope in Christ.
In my defence I must point out that all that was published in The Irish Times previously was the dismissal of the document by the Church of Ireland synod and what I was criticising in my letter was the media emphasis.
I am delighted at the Christian Study centre at St Fin Barre's Cathedral showing commitment to true ecumenism when frank and full dialogue takes place in a spirit of truth and charity.
I am also encouraged that the Synod agreed that the document "goes a long way towards portraying Mary as more of a bridge than a barrier between our two communities". I very much look forward to the crossing of that bridge. - Yours, etc,
Mrs MARY STEWART, Ardeskin, Donegal Town.
