Church services and Easter Sunday

Sir, – In light of the Church of Ireland's decision to close several of its Dublin churches on Easter Sunday, with the impression that this was mandated by the civic authorities, I wish to record my own experience ("City churches unable to offer services due to 1916 commemorations", February 16th; "Government moves to facilitate Easter Sunday church services", February 17th).

I have been involved in several meetings with the Garda and the Protocol Office these past weeks and have been impressed with their desire to provide as much assistance as possible to facilitate those who wish to attend church services on Easter. They went out of their way to meet us, discuss our particular issues, provide some car parking where possible and enable us to hold our annual ecumenical service in O’Connell Street at 9am. Since they have gone the extra mile in this regard, perhaps your readers will walk the additional yards to join us for that and for our own service at 11am. – Yours, etc,

Rev ALAN BOAL ,
