Sir, – At the corner of Dublin’s Dame Street and George’s Street on Saturday last, an open-top tourist bus pulled up at traffic lights beside where I was standing.

“And over there,” the driver told his passengers, “is Temple Bar, the cultural quarter of Dublin where there are over 70 bars and restaurants.”

Up ahead of him was Christ Church Cathedral, behind him was Trinity College, to his left was Dublin Castle, City Hall and the Royal Exchange, but I heard no more. No doubt he was heading straight for the Guinness Storehouse, another cultural icon. – Yours, etc,
