Civil Service and waiting for a new government

Sir, – What is all this hoohaa about the government?

We’ve elected 158 members of parliament. Now all they have to do is govern.

After all, it is the Civil Service that runs the country, while the elected representatives decide on policy, legislation and the allocation of resources.

If they fail to do the job then the Civil Service will continue to run the country in accordance with the current set of directives.

So while the 158 jockey to achieve a dictatorial position, the problems of homelessness, unemployment, water, crime and the rest just trundle on unsolved.

And if there is another election are we going to vote them all in again? – Yours, etc,
