MICHAEL McGUIRE,
Sir, - I agree with Janet Walsh's contention (February 12th) that visitor centres tend to be a blight on the natural landscape rather than an enhancement. We will attract more visitors by preserving the environment.
Perhaps a solution would be to have one huge interpretative centre where people could leave their cars in a colossal car-park and view the Burren and the Cliffs of Moher centre under the one giant, grant-aided roof. They could sit in darkened rooms and watch fuzzy video projections with excessively loud commentators preaching in grandiose (acquired) accents. Then they could retire to the nasty souvenir shop before having some overpriced, lumpy scones and tea.
Meanwhile, those who wished to enjoy the natural beauty of an area would be more free to do so. - Yours., etc.,
MICHAEL McGUIRE,
Garvery,
