Madam, - This week, the Irish press and radio gave a great deal of attention to people who were denying that climate change is caused by human activity. "I haven't seen any evidence that this is the case," said one Newstalk interviewee: ". . .and I don't want anyone telling me what I can do with the money in my pocket, or denying me the freedom to choose." Michael O'Leary accused "eco nuts" and "environmental headbangers" of talking nonsense "when they claimed that aviation was the fastest-growing source of carbon emissions". I hope Kofi Annan's statement in The Irish Times (Nov 9th) that "the scientific consensus, already clear and incontrovertible, is today moving towards the more alarmed end of the spectrum", puts an end to glib humiliation in the media of those who take the environment seriously. - Yours, etc,
