Madam, - I'm not at all surprised at the closure of Bewley's. Four years ago I brought some English visitors to Dublin for a few days - one of our visits was to Bewley's on Grafton Street. The service was poor, the standard of fare mediocre (chips with everything) and to top it all I was given a mug of tea with the tea bag and a plastic tea spoon in situ. Sentimentality at Bewley's demise may have its part but it cannot compete with modern tastes and expectations. - Yours, etc.,
