'Coming out' as a lesbian

Madam, - We would like to congratulate Roisin Ingle for her sensitive article, "My Inner Lesbian" (Magazine, April 1st)

Madam, - We would like to congratulate Roisin Ingle for her sensitive article, "My Inner Lesbian" (Magazine, April 1st). Even if her coming out may have been a result of the day that was in it, she managed to highlight some of the issues the lesbian community face.

By exemplifying Louise Killeen's experiences in her home town, Ms Ingle managed to show that coming out, while still difficult, particularly in rural areas, is not necessarily the end of the world. Her article helps to illustrate how much the unconditional love of a parent can provide support at a difficult time.

The examples of Catherine Zappone and Ann Louise Gilligan also help to illustrate that the battle for acceptance does not end with family, but begins with society. We hope your readers found Roisin Ingle's article as encouraging as we did. - Yours, etc,
