Sir, - I am aghast and appalled at the sales of lands and property by the various religious communities, at a time when property has reached dizzy heights and the owners are making millions of pounds in profit.
The majority of the properties which are being sold were given initially by generous benefactors (not forgetting the widow's mite) to provide education for the under-privileged and the poor.
The Junior Minister Mary Hanafin said in a recent statement that the State was desperately seeking accommodation for the homeless. She should look no further and question the attitude of the people who were given these properties, but not for the purpose of selling them to property developers. - Yours, etc.,
Caroline Devine, Hazelwood, Loughrea, Co Galway.
