Sir, - Five months ago I sent a letter detailing a series of shortcomings in the 14A bus service to Dublin Bus head office.

On no fewer than five occasions I telephoned to enquire when a response might be forthcoming, and on each occasion I was told that there was "no customer service department" and "did I want to speak with somebody in the garage?" I eventually agreed to be put through to someone in the garage, who asked me to read out my complaint so he could help me.

The offer was genuine and well intentioned. However, it is completely inappropriate for the bus service of a European capital city to operate in such an unprofessional manner.

This unprofessionalism must be compared with the sophisticated marketing and advertising system in place, where entire double-decker buses can be liveried from top to tail with full-colour corporate logos in a matter of days.

Dublin Bus has a shambles of customer service, with no commitment to its paying clients. I would like this fact on the public record. - Yours, etc.,
