Sir, - We recently returned from beautiful, litter-free Australia. We flew from Brisbane Airport, beautiful, efficient and clean, on to Hong Kong airport, where you could eat your food off the floor. Even Heathrow has improved somewhat over the past three years, Dublin airport too.
But then we arrived at the brand new Connolly Station. It looks lovely at first glance, but the Ladies' toilet was filthy - tiles already off the wall, toilet paper all over the floor, even a whole roll stuck down one lavatory. The Gents was OK. In the coffee shop area (brand new), the floor was sticky around the tables from old spillages. The main assembly area was being swept by a chap with a wide brush, but his receptacle for the rubbish was an empty Tayto box! I saw some foreigners looking and laughing.
Perhaps even more serious for a visitor was the large, well-lit departures display board. First, it was filthy, but even worse, you could not read it because the sun - yes the sun, on Monday June 12th - was shining through the beautiful new glass roof. When will our planners learn? - Yours, etc.
