CONSCIENCE AND THE CHURCH

Sir, - Let me reassure G. R. FitzGerald (March 4th) that my letter of March 1st was not a late delivery from the 1950s. I wasn't delivered myself until the 1960s.

My comments were addressed to faithful Catholics, who should know that, be it 102, 1952 or 2002 AD, Christ's words to Peter, the apostles and their successors remain: "Anyone who listens to you, listens to Me". (Luke 10:16). Pope John Paul and the bishops in communion with him are the rightful guardians of the Faith to whom Catholics must listen.

Janet Cobb (March 4th) refers to the phrase: "Let conscience guide you." True, but first of all we must inform our consciences. Our consciences are subject to God's revealed Law and Truth. - Yours, etc.,

Father PATRICK
