Constitution and ‘women in the home’

Sir, – Minister for Minister for Business and Employment Ged Nash describes Article 41.2 of the Constitution as "offensive" and says Labour proposes to remove it as part of its general election manifesto (January 2nd).

Why is Labour ignoring the recommendations of citizens in the Convention on the Constitution, which voted 98 per cent in favour of retaining it and rendering it gender neutral?

In fact, that body went further and argued that it should be extended to other carers, both in and outside the home so that they too would not be obliged to work through economic necessity.
