Sir, – A culture of arrogant immunity can arise in some public bodies, especially when it is nurtured and encouraged by weak enforcement of the laws under which they must operate.
With dozens of citizens infected by contaminated public water supply in the Gorey region, some of whom were hospitalised, it begs the question as to who is responsible.
Irish Water says that late notification to them potentially put public health at risk. So, who is responsible?
Until we have all the relevant facts of the matter brought before the High Court, with appropriate sentencing in line with the gravity of the offence, we are in danger of such failures being repeated ad nauseam, excuse the pun, until proper sanctions are brought to bear on the guilty parties.
